Juneau Cruises from San Francisco

Almost every cruise to Alaska visits Juneau. The capital city has plenty to explore on the downtown streets and in the surrounding wilderness. See our Alaska cruises from San Francisco for the full list of voyages that stop at Juneau.

Downtown Juneau features saloons and shops on South Franklin Street. Many of the buildings are historic. The Capitol building offers free tours on summer weekdays. Eat at a seafood restaurant to enjoy Alaska's famed salmon, halibut and crab. At the waterfront, use one of the spotting telescopes to look for mountain goats on Mt Juneau.

Juneau Cruise Shore Excursions

The Gold Belt Tram takes you up 1,800 feet for spectacular views over the city, water, and cruise ships.

Mendenhall Glacier is a popular excursion about 12 miles from downtown. The glacier is part of the Tongass National Forest, which covers a large portion of Southeast Alaska. Walk along the shore of Mendenhall Lake to the gushing Nugget Falls. From there you'll have a great view of the glacier.

A whale watching boat trip from Juneau could be a highlight of your visit. Humpback whales are around from April to November. Orca whales are also sometimes seen.
